It amazes me how quick we are to dismiss people. We judge the outside without giving the person a chance to get to know them. I met this young woman on the job years ago. I noticed that she was always alone.
People rarely spoke to her and I never saw her interact with others on the job. Her hair style and dress made her look older than her years. One day I decided to strike up a conversation with this young woman and she turned out to be quite the conversationalist. She was nothing like how she appeared, shy and scared of her own shadow. She was smart, funny and had a hardy laugh. I was quite surprised. Eventually others started talking with her and she began to make friends. I don't know what made her come out of her shell, but I'm glad she did. I guess a simple hello,a smile or a kind gesture can make the difference in someone's day or life...just something to think about.
