Family Shares UPenn Student's Suicide Note

Life is a Precious gift – Priceless – Let’s make sure our children know their worth.   My heart goes out to the loving parents of this young woman and to families who have experienced the same. I share this story for the one who feels that suicide is the only way out. Know that your situation is not hopeless and that you are loved. Please reach out to your parents/parent, clergy, teacher or a friend. In January 2014, 19-year old University Of Pennsylvania track star Madison Holleran jumped to her death, off a parking garage. The freshman's father says she was overwhelmed in college and struggling with school work. He said she told them about her thoughts of suicide and was seeing a psychiatrist. Now, one year later, her parents have released her suicide note  to People Magazine Here is what she said: “I thought how unpleasant it is to be locked out, and I thought how it is worse perhaps to be locked in. Beautiful to God

A truly beautiful woman is not only attractive on the outside and inside, she is also attractive to God. How a woman looks to God is more important than any other quality she possesses because one day her outer beauty will fade and her inner beauty will cease, but the beauty that God sees in her will be important when she stands before Him. Being beautiful to God should be top priority on every woman’s list. Article by Nancy Morgan

A Living Hope

Believers are born into a living hope. However, people who are without Christ have no foundation for their  expectations and desires. Many live with a false sense of security. They assume that what is important in this life is the physical and material. But there is no safety in things (1 Tim. 6:9). Those who pursue wealth and health rather than God find that their dreams either go unfulfilled or fail to satisfy. Believers anchor their hope in the solid rock of Jesus Christ. His words are always true and His promises always kept. I'll sometimes hear a person project his or her unfulfilled desires on God and then argue that He came up short. But Christians who make a request and submit to God's will always get an answer—yes, no, or wait. The Lord does not disappoint those who seek His will. Don't misunderstand that statement. We might feel temporarily let down when something we hope for is not in God's plan. But He doesn't go back on the biblical promise to

His Name

Jesus Our Intimate Friend

I’ve counseled plenty of folks who argue that they are not worthy of God’s love. Of all the passages I could point to that describe the Lord’s devotion, today’s is the one I think best showcases the unqualified friendship He offers His followers. As Jesus was praying in the garden of Gethsemane on the night before His crucifixion, Judas Iscariot approached him with a band of men. The betrayer stepped forward and kissed the Lord’s cheek. And what was Jesus’ response? According to another disciple, Matthew, He called the man “Friend” (Matt. 26:50). Judas expected Jesus to establish His kingdom on earth and drive the Romans out of Israel—anyone who could calm a storm at sea could easily remove an oppressive government! But Judas’s interest in Jesus was more personal and political than spiritual. In fact, John reported that his fellow disciple stole from the money box (12:6). Today the man’s name is synonymous with those who betray others for personal gain. In spite of Judas’ gre

What God Really Thinks About Sex Outside Marriage

I believe God is good, and the Bible is His revelation of Himself to us. Therefore, it too must be good. And if the Bible is good in general, it flows then that it is good for God's image bearers, male and female. I've felt compelled (there is no better word for it) to study the passages that seem hardest for women. After studying Dinah, I went on to Deuteronomy 22, which seems to be the later laws addressing Dinah's situation so that the horrible fiasco that happened after her rape would not be repeated. The bottom line of the law is that the man who violates a woman has to restore her honor and dignity in her culture. He has to pay a dowry worthy of what he took indiscriminately. He must marry her, and He cannot divorce her. Civilization at this point wasn't very civilized. For a culture apart from the law in which women had zero rights (see Dinah's story in Genesis 34), this was the first step toward giving her rights. But I was struck by a bigger issue whi

Loves Enduring Promise

Love this book by Janet Oake’s – It has so many great lessons for young woman – Inspirational and insightful- Definitely a must read or watch the movie. Here is one of my favorite moments: A young Missie Davis, played by January Jones, is being courted by a handsome, rich railroad heir (Mackenzie Astin) who ask her for a kiss.  Missie replies,   “I always believed my first kiss is for the man I marry”.  Love It! If young woman embraced that everything about them is special including their first kiss perhaps many would make better choices. Love is an enduring promise- a life time commitment - not a few months or a one night stand. So be protective and selective of your kisses.

The Wise Builder

I heard a story of a young woman who believed she was a “Living Doll".  She had  money, success, good looks, stylish clothes, a figure to die for and lots of friends. One day as she stood gazing at herself in the mirror she said, “I have everything I want. I have no need of God”.   Silly, Silly girl I thought. Then one day, without her permission, life happened….as it always does. The very thing she trusted to sustain her crumbled to the ground. I liken this woman to the foolish man in Mathew 7:26, which built his house on the sand . And when the rain, the floods and winds blew upon the house it fell and great was its fall. There is nothing wrong with having money, friends, and stylish clothes and being successful.   The error is when you value these things above God and trust that they alone can sustain you.   In the same chapter of Matthew, verse 24, it also speaks about a wise man, which built his house upon the rock . The rain descended, the floods came, the winds ble
