I
heard a story of a young woman who believed she was a “Living Doll". She had money, success, good looks, stylish
clothes, a figure to die for and lots of friends. One day as she stood gazing at herself in the mirror she said, “I have everything I
want. I have no need of God”. Silly, Silly girl I thought.
Then
one day, without her permission, life happened….as it always does. The very
thing she trusted to sustain her crumbled to the ground.
I
liken this woman to the foolish man in Mathew 7:26, which built his house on
the sand. And when the rain, the floods and winds blew upon the house it fell
and great was its fall.
There
is nothing wrong with having money, friends, and stylish clothes and being
successful. The error is when you value
these things above God and trust that they alone can sustain you. In the same chapter of Matthew, verse 24, it
also speaks about a wise man, which built his house upon the rock. The rain
descended, the floods came, the winds blew and the house did not fall. Jesus is that rock! His word, His truth and what
He calls righteous is the foundation we must build upon.
As
the song goes:
My hope is built on nothing
less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus' name.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus' name.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking
sand
