Keep The Faith

The winter has been long. The ice is thick and there is no movement.  Nothing is stirring. It is snowing.  Suddenly something begins to stir on the inside. I sense life renewing its self and I hear a still small voice say, “It’s time to move forward with life”.

My life was like a boat docked due to inclement weather. I obeyed the still small voice to move forward.  So, I readied myself to pull out. I started up the motor and put the boat in forward gear, but something was preventing me from moving.  Then I put the gear in reverse, then back to forward gear to loosen the grip of the snow and ice, but there was no movement. The only thing I could think to do next is to wait and allow the motor to run a while.

After sometime of waiting, I tried again to move forward.  This time something happened.  The boat broke free on the port side.  Wow!  I did it again and the boat broke free on the starboard side, but I still couldn’t move forward.  There was so much ice and snow at the stern, so I continued to let the motor run.  Again I put the boat in forward gear, then in reverse and back to forward gear.  I repeated these steps several times until I broke away from the ice and snow.  I was adrift- I was free!  I started out with a put-put, with snow and ice residue.  I could barely see my way.  All I could do is steer forward due to the snow and ice barring my view on both sides.  I didn’t know where I was headed or my fate.  I just kept moving straight ahead.  Months past and I began to see the snow melt away and the ice fall in to the water.  Finally, I could see the sun and I began to smile.  I realized at that moment it would be a journey of faith.

The bible tells us that the just shall live by faith (Hebrews 10:38).  Sometimes you may have to venture out in to uncharted waters.  Doing something you have never done before.  Upon starting out you may have some fears and apprehension.  Feeling unsure and afraid of where the journey might take you.  Leaving behind family, friends and familiar territory for the unknown can be scary.  The past will often flash before you and fear will try to settle in, but this is when you must rest on His promises.

The truth is we are never alone.  God, who is our Anchor and Captain of the ship, the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End - is - and will always be in control. God never promised us everything would be perfect, but He did promise He would always be with us (Matthew 28:20).  Worrying about the how, why or when can be a distraction. God sees the bigger picture. Our God, who is a good good Father and perfect in all of His ways will work things out according to His purpose for your life - Keep the faith.

Miriam

Miriam was the big sister of Moses. Her name (sometimes rendered as Mary in English) means 'bitter' although it could also signify 'one who loves or is loved by Yahweh'. Yahweh means 'the self-existent one'. Yahweh is one of the ways the children of Israel referred to God. Meet the family Amram and Jochebed were the father and mother of Miriam, Aaron and Moses. Moses was the youngest of the three yet became the leader of the pack (Exodus 2:3-4; Exodus 6:20; Numbers 26:59). Moses was the man who led Israel out of Egypt. As the big sister of the family Miriam knew all the secrets. Women often get to know about things that men don't. When Pharaoh of Egypt decreed the death of all Israel baby boys in a desperate attempt to curb the growth of Israel, Amram and Jochebed put baby Moses into a waterproof basket and set it on the river in an attempt to save his life. It was Miriam who was watching the basket when the daughter of Pharaoh discovered it. It w...

Feed My Sheep

Jesus Reinstates Peter John 21:15-20 New International Version (NIV) When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said,  “Feed my lambs.” Again Jesus said,  “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said,  “Take care of my sheep.” The third time he said to him,  “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time,  “Do you love me?”  He said, “Lord, you know all things;  you know that I love you.” Jesus said,  “Feed my sheep.     Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.”   Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death ...

Deborah

Deborah was a prophet, a leader (otherwise known as a Judge) in Israel as well as the wife of Lappidoth (Judges 4:4).  Deborah means 'bee'. Bees are responsible for pollination of flowering plants. Pollination is what creates seeds that grow into other plants. One third of the human food supply depends on insect pollination of plants and bees play a major role in this 1 . The biblical Deborah, like a bee, fulfilled an active and vital role in bringing life to the community. Background After the death of Joshua, the man who had led the Israelites into the land of Canaan, God raised up Judges to lead and rule Israel. The first Judges God used were Othniel, Ehud and Shamgar (Judges 3). And then came Deborah. In Deborah's day Israel had no overall leader. Everyone did whatever they pleased and the nation fell into sin and were oppressed by the Canaanites (Judges 21:25). Jabin was the Canaanite king during the era of Deborah. Sisera was the commander of Jabin's...
