Whatever happened to individuality and strong
confident women? It is a sad thing to say, but we have a generation of young
women who prefer to be a clone of someone else than be who they are. I consider this a lost treasure, because we are born into this world for a purpose. We each have something to give.
Many of you have read, “Little Women”, by Louisa May
Alcott. I love this story primarily because it depicts
the lives of four young women who are INDIVIDUALS. The young women in the story have their
flaws, but they are true to who they are.
More importantly, their personality, interests and ambitions do not
overshadow the other, but bring forth a certain beauty and tapestry.
The March sisters, Meg, Josephine, Beth and Amy are
a very close family unit, but you will never find them trying to be a clone of
the other. Meg, the eldest of the four, has a weakness for luxury and leisure,
but overall is a gentle and loving person.
Josephine the writer, is at times rebellious and out spoken. Beth, the musician
in the family, is sweet and somewhat angelic in nature. The youngest Amy, who is the artist, has a
love for beautiful things. She is at
times selfish and vain, and is known to pout if she does not get her way. It is the distinct differences (the individuality) of the March sisters
which shine through making Little Women so unique, warm and endearing.
There is a greater lesson to be learned from Little
Women – Each day we are surrounded by people who do not share the same values,
morals and beliefs. It is a constant
campaign to conform to the world’s standards.
Each day we must make the choice to be steadfast in our biblical
beliefs. If not you will gradually begin
to mirror the world. The world despises
INDIVIDUALITY, but embraces conformity.
God created you to stand out- to be set apart. If common core was introduced back then,
Little Women would be a different story. You, however, are not common, but extraordinary. It is refreshing to be in the company of
women who know who they are in Christ, who embrace their uniqueness and shine
with hope, enthusiasm and promise.
Little Women is a timeless classic that future
generations will continue to enjoy. What
God has placed inside of you is eternal and will never extinguish over time.
