The decision to go before the king and plead on behalf of the Jewish people was a pivotal time in Esther’s life. She understood that going before the king without being summoned would bring death, unless the king extended the golden scepter.
Mordecai, Esther’s uncle, admonished her by saying, “For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place; but you and your father’s house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this” (Esther 4:14).
Esther requested the Jewish people to pray and fast for three days, and she and her maidens did like wise. After three days, Esther went before the king and God gave her favor. The king extended the golden scepter that was in his hand and Esther went near and touched the top of the scepter (Esther 5:2).
Like Esther, many young women today are in challenging situations; whether it is an abusive relationship, prostitution, addictions, eating disorders, suicidal tendencies or poor judgment. Gods grace is there to deliver you out of any situation. Today, God is extending to you His scepter of hope, salvation and divine favor.
Gods scepter is His hand extended to you reach out and touch it. Your life will never be the same again. Don’t be deceived in your thinking that you can live this life on your own. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this. A scepter is a rod that represents authority. Young women, it is time for you to accept your scepter. God has a plan for your life. You each have a purpose and a destiny to fulfill. You are created in God’s image, but you are also unique. Esther was a Hebrew queen of Persia who used her scepter to save her people from destruction. How will you use yours?
Your path, race, economic statuses, education and culture, may be different, but you should all share one goal: to be pleasing before the king of kings. The choice is up to you.
